Edgewater Library: Black Panther Party History in Chicago
Join us on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Edgewater Library for an engaging look at the Illinois Chapter of the Black Panther Party.
As the Black Panther Party marks its 60th anniversary, the Historical Preservation Society presents the history of the Illinois Chapter, one of the most significant chapters in the Black Panther Party.
The Illinois Chapter's headquarters was first located on Chicago's West Side before moving to the South Side, but its influence extended across the city through community organizing, political alliances, and the original Rainbow Coalition.
This presentation explores the people, places, and events that shaped the Illinois Chapter and introduces the Black Panther Party Heritage Trail in Illinois, a public history project that preserves the places connected to this remarkable history.
