Our role as publisher is an extension of our research and preservation work. HPS Press publishes and returns to circulation important scholarship, primary-source material, and historical works that deepen understanding of the Illinois Chapter and its place in history. We are committed to building a lasting body of authoritative resources on the history of the Illinois Chapter.

In 2026, HPS Press published its first two works, both by historian Jon F. Rice: Up on Madison, Down on 75th and Black Revolutionaries on Chicago’s West Side: A History of the Illinois Black Panther Party. Together, these works bring important early scholarship on the Illinois Chapter back into circulation and make Rice’s extensive research and firsthand interviews available to a new generation of readers.
