The Film That Captured Important Moments in Our Collective History…
As we approach the holiday season, it's important to remember that a tragic event marks this time of year for the Hampton and Clark families, Party members and everyone in the struggle for human rights. At 4:30 a.m. on December 4, 1969, J. Edgar Hoover and State’s Attorney Edward Hanrahan assassinated Deputy Chairman Fred Hampton and Defense Captain Mark Clark at the hands of Chicago police. This event, while deeply saddening, is a crucial part of our collective history. Fred Hampton is the only American citizen outwardly murdered by official state operatives, and his bright future would have benefited generations to come.
This event is not just a screening but a profound observance of history. In recognition of the FBI's coordinated assassinations and the bravery of those who stood against it, the Historical Preservation Society will join Chicago Film Archives on December 3, 2024, at the Gene Siskel Film Center for a screening of The Murder of Fred Hampton.
In its 20th Anniversary, Chicago Film Archives has played a crucial role in preserving and making this priceless film available to the public.
