As the Black Panther Party marks its 60th anniversary, historian Leila Wills presents the history of the Illinois Chapter through its significant South Side operations.
After relocating its headquarters from the West Side to the South Side, the Illinois Chapter continued to organize, build community programs, and shape Chicago history while facing police raids and government surveillance.
This presentation also introduces the Black Panther Party Heritage Trail in Illinois, a public history project that recognizes and documents the places connected to this remarkable history.
